Nothing more than a google map with pink and purple dots?....or…If we look closer, is this a cover for an obvious solution to the Weinam Creek parking issue. The big picture tells me the Wienam solution must include benefits to SMBI, mainlanders and tourists. Moores, Meisner and The Esplanade precinct should be considered a real solution. Not just locked away as ‘Wetland’
The council will consider the comments when it draws up its Wetland Draft Landscape Master Plan.
The wetland area the council wants comments on extends from Moores Road, Redland Bay in the north, to Cleveland Redland Bay Road in the south west.
The area provides a large flora and fauna corridor linking Redland Bay and Mount Cotton to Moreton Bay and cuts across council’s divisions 5 and 6.
Councillors for both areas, Cr Barbara Townsend (Div 5) and Cr Toni Bowler (Div 6) will hold a community feedback session for those who want to view plans, talk to the landscape designer and comment.
Cr Townsend said the wetlands and parkway were key recreational facilities.
Cr Bowler said the area was one of the most significant public spaces in Redland Bay, with hundreds of people using the pathways and facilities each day.
Feedback session
** A community feedback session will be held on Sunday, November 27, from 10.30am-3.30pm, at Fielding Park (at the picnic rotunda), 1 Habitat Drive, Redland Bay. Community members will have an opportunity to review the plan, talk to the landscape designer and provide feedback. The draft plan can also be viewed on Council’s website http://www.redland.qld.gov.au and comments can be submitted online. Comments close December 16.
Redland City Mayor Melva Hobson said the wetland was an important part of the Redlands environment and lifestyle.
“I would recommend that residents get involved to make sure their wishes for the area are heard,” Cr Hobson said.
“Your input will help to guide the council in planning for community recreation facilities.
“The Weinam Creek Wetland Master Plan aims to enhance the public usability of the wetlands, as well as improving the health of the environment,” she said.
The plan’s “key objectives” include providing a range of recreational activities along the creek and wetland system for local residents and visitors.
The council hopes the plan will enhance the natural systems of the Weinam Creek Wetland and expand significant vegetation communities within the creek corridor.
It is hoped the plan will provide a balance between urban living and the environment and provide accessible open public space.
